Queenstown has made the cut in the top 50 World’s Greatest Places, TIME’s list of extraordinary travel destinations compiled from nominations by its global network of correspondents and contributors with an emphasis on new and exciting experiences.
Queenstown was singled out for its high-flying adventure activities, including the iconic Shotover Jet and the Milford Track, new venues such as Kingpin Queenstown and the soon-to-be-launched world’s first winery airline by Invivo with charter flights from Auckland to Queenstown.
Destination Queenstown CE Mat Woods was delighted by the news of Queenstown’s inclusion in TIME’s list of the World’s Greatest Places for 2022.
“International recognition like this is a great reminder that we live in one of the world’s greatest places and Queenstown is renowned as a world-class destination,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to be acknowledged internationally, especially after a tough couple of years. But with our borders now open and some exciting new initiatives happening in the local visitor economy, we are looking forward to getting back to doing what we are famous for – welcoming visitors and sharing our outstanding experiences.”
The TIME acknowledgement follows Queenstown receiving two accolades last month at the annual TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards where the town was voted the number one destination for the South Pacific and the fifth best ski destination worldwide.
The full list of TIME’s Greatest Places will be published in the 25 July 2022 double issue of TIME available now and can be viewed via time.com/greatest-places
