More than 5,000 interested applicants attended the BNE Careers Expo on 10 September where 40 airport organisations recruited for 2,000 roles across airlines, catering, security, cleaning, baggage, ground handling, retail, hotels, childcare and car rental.
The outstanding turnout and quality of candidates overwhelmed participating airport companies, who were thrilled by the number of qualified applicants as well as those looking for a pathway into the industry.
Brisbane-based Alliance Airlines needs 100 new staff now and 400 in the coming year and walked away from the event with a list of skilled candidates for cabin crew, flight crew, pilots and engineers.
BAC Executive General Manager of Human Resources Jane Dionysius organised the expo and said the excitement for the industry was obvious.
“It’s been an absolutely incredible event. We’ve seen a lot of people passionate about aviation just looking for an opportunity to get in,” she said.

BNE currently employs 24,000 people and will be recruiting for another 10,000 positions ahead of the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games held in Brisbane.
BAC CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said it was great to see so many people attend the expo to look for a career in aviation.
“These were people with a goal to land a job in aviation and I totally understand that because these are the most exciting jobs in the world,” he said.
