It was 1998. The film Titanic was fast becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded a little thing called Google (which still seems to be doing well). And, in great company, but closer to home, Carole Smethurst founded Bicton Travel with her son, Phil.
This year, Bicton Travel marks its 25th anniversary. And what started as a two-person venture quickly blossomed into one of the nation’s most successful travel agencies.
“I am extremely proud to celebrate Bicton Travel’s 25th birthday,” Carole says.
“And of course, we wouldn’t be here without our exceptional team and the continuous support of our clients, who put their trust in us to deliver their fantastic holidays year after year.”
Cruising to glory
Cruising has been at the heart of Bicton Travel’s triumph. Carole saw early on the appetite Australians have for cruising, and remains one of Australia’s foremost cruise experts. In 2016, she was not only inducted into the CLIA Hall of Fame but was also named the godmother of APT’s MS AmaStella cruise ship.
But, Bicton Travel’s contributions extend beyond the realms of travel. In 2018, during their 20-year anniversary celebrations, Bicton Travel championed a cause that resonates with so many of us. The company donated $50,000 to Camp Quality, a charity that supports children whose lives are affected by cancer.
Bicton Travel’s silver streak
Fast forward to the present, and Bicton Travel continues its stride of growth and expansion. Acquiring Claremont Cruise and Travel Centre in 2023 marked a milestone as it established its second branch, reinforcing its unwavering commitment to delivering luxury and premium travel experiences.
The milestone of 25 years is not only a celebration of the past but also a testament to the future that Bicton Travel envisions. As it continues to transform the way Australians travel,its legacy of excellence and innovation is destined to leave an indelible mark on the world of travel for years to come.
