Tourism NT and thl (Tourism Holdings Limited) suite of brands recently hosted 10 travel advisors and wholesalers on an epic five-day, self-drive trip from Darwin, showcasing the scenery, sights and unique attributes of the Northern Territory’s Top End by road.
The winners from a Flight Centre and thl sales incentive joined reps from Driveaway, ANZCRO and Goway Travel on the Top End drive fam in late August 2023.
Starting at the Darwin Festival where the group enjoyed a VIP package and a Sammy J comedy show, the fam hit the road the next day after picking up their vehicles at the thl Darwin branch.
The group drove everything from 4WDs to motorhomes, experiencing all types of vehicles over the famil duration.
Famil participants trialled the maui Cascade (4-berth motorhome), maui Ultima Plus (3-berth motorhome), Britz Safari (5-berth 4WD with a rooftop tent), Britz Outback (5-berth 4WD with a ground tent), Apollo Euro Deluxe (6-berth motorhome) and the Apollo Adventure Camper (2-berth 4WD campervan).
The first stop was a one-hour cruise with Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruises followed by a Guluyambi Cultural Cruise en route to Kakadu National Park.
Here, the fam group stayed overnight at Anbinik Lodge in Jabiru in two-bedroom cabins and suites.
Over the next few days, the group explored the ancient rock art at Ubirr Rock and Nourlangie and embarked on a Yellow Water Billabong Cruise while staying at Cooinda Lodge.
The final night was at the 5-star Cicada Lodge in Nitmiluk National Park after enjoying Katherine Hot Springs and a Nabilil Dreaming Sunset Dinner Cruise.
Driving back to Darwin, the convoy stopped at Berry Springs Nature Park for a picnic lunch and swim before concluding the Top End fam with a Sail Darwin Champagne Sunset Cruise in the Darwin Harbour.
