Silversea has revealed the first spaces and hotel name of its upcoming hotel debut in Chilean Patagonia, which will open ahead of the 2025-26 Antarctica season and provide a new gateway to luxury expedition cruising in the region.
The 150-room The Cormorant at 55 South is due to open in Puerto Williams, Chile in January 2026, marking Silversea’s first hotel and a new comfortable and seamless way to visit Antarctica.
The Cormorant is a nod to the property’s location at 55° S – the world’s southernmost hotel – and an acknowledgement of the area’s history and Lakutaia, the indigenous Yahgan word for the aquatic cormorant bird, a symbol of seafarers.

Guests will enjoy two distinct room views – either a forest outlook or over the Beagle Channel, highlighting the beauty of Patagonia.
Rooms are designed for an immersive experience with expansive windows, lots of natural light, earthy interiors, locally handcrafted items and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The hotel will facilitate a frictionless journey to Antarctica so guests can enjoy Silversea’s personalised service throughout their entire travel experience.
Silversea’s six-day Antarctica Fly Cruise expeditions allow guests to fly over the Drake Passage, providing a shorter option without compromising on time spent in-destination.

Silversea President Bert Hernandez said: “The Cormorant at 55 South is a tribute to the rich culture, breathtaking natural beauty and storied history of Puerto Williams, immersing guests in their destination before embarking on their journey to Antarctica.”
“Every aspect of The Cormorant is thoughtfully designed with our guests in mind, ensuring a comfortable and uniquely Silversea experience.

“Each room offers panoramic views of Patagonia and the hotel creates a deep connection to the local community, providing specially designed experiences that will allow our guests to begin their expeditions sooner than ever, all in uncompromised comfort,” he said.
