Australians are leading the tourist charge and rekindling their love for Hong Kong, contributing to a steady increase in visitors and a strong surge in arrivals for the first quarter of 2025 with Aussie visitation to the city-state up 32 per cent year-on-year.
Visitation to Hong Kong is currently outpacing direct air capacity from Australia, highlighting its popularity among Aussies.
With Cathay Pacific operating daily flights ex Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth; Qantas flying daily ex Sydney (marking 75 years in 2024) and Melbourne and Hong Kong Airlines flying daily ex Sydney from 21 June 2025 alongside the seasonal Gold Coast service, more seats and competition will be available in-market.

The new Hong Kong Airlines service is expected to boost seat capacity on the SYD-HKG route by 20 per cent.
In 2024, more than 850,000 passengers flew between the NSW capital and Hong Kong, making it Sydney’s third-busiest international route after Singapore and Auckland.

Hong Kong Tourism Board attributes the positive growth to a packed city-wide event calendar, including an action-packed ‘Super March’ that featured LIV Golf, Art Basel Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Sevens.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will also celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025 with a jam-packed year-long series of festivities, further drawing international travellers to the city-state.

Hong Kong Tourism Board Director Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific Karen Macmillan said: “We’re thrilled to see such strong momentum from the Australian market.”
Chatting to Karryon last year, Macmillan cited upcoming city-shaping developments for Australian travellers to discover, including the new Kai Tak Sports Park, which hosted the Hong Kong Sevens, and the West Kowloon Cultural District.
“Hong Kong is back in a big way, from world-class events to exciting new infrastructure and Aussies are clearly embracing the energy, flavour and spirit of the city once again.”
