First look: Inside Crystalbrook’s new luxury hotel in Canberra

Crystalbrook has revealed the name of its first property in Canberra, with a sneak peek at what the five-star hotel will look like when it opens in 2027.

Crystalbrook has revealed the name of its first property in Canberra, with a sneak peek at what the five-star hotel will look like when it opens in 2027.

Crystalbrook’s new-build Canberra hotel will be named Crystalbrook Aurora – inspired by the idea of a new dawn.

The luxury hotel brand says the name also holds historical significance, having once been among the proposed names for Canberra.

The sustainably led, 10-storey hotel will have 225 rooms and suites, a European-style rooftop restaurant, ground-floor dining, luxury retail offerings, Eléme Day Spa, sauna, pool, and gym facilities.

In keeping with the brand’s focus on sustainability, there will be 100 percent waste-free bathrooms, recycled timber key cards and coat hangers, zero-waste coffee capsules via TerraCycle, and ‘Climate Calories’ labelling to support more mindful dining.

The design ethos

The design of the new-build hotel pays tribute to the capital’s origins and in particular, the influence of Marion Mahony Griffin –  one of the world’s first female architects and a vital figure in the city’s founding story.

Marion, alongside her husband and collaborator, Walter Burley Griffin, helped shape Canberra’s natural landscape and concrete architecture, and this has been reflected in the light-filled central skylight atrium and abundant greenery.

Crystalbrook Collection Founder Ghassan Aboud says the hotel’s identity reveal and development progress “marks an exciting next chapter in our Canberra journey”.

“This project reflects our commitment to investing in high-growth, culturally significant locations and delivering properties that reflect the future of responsible luxury.”

Canberra Developer TP Dynamics Founder Tony Pan says, “Located opposite the iconic Canberra Centre on Garema Place, the hotel is set to become a new landmark on the city skyline”.

“We are incredibly proud of our partnership and together we are delighted to build a legacy for the city as part of central Canberra’s revitalisation.”

Crystalbrook Collection CEO Geoff York adds, “As we continue to expand the collection’s national footprint, Canberra represents both a strategic investment and an opportunity to help shape the next era of Australian hospitality”.

“With visitor expenditure in the ACT reaching $3.6 billion in the year to December 2024, and projected to reach $5 billion by 2030, Canberra remains a significant tourism market.”

Crystalbrook Aurora is set to open in early 2027.
