Hurtigruten is adding MS Midnatsol to its Signature fleet from May 2026 as demand for voyages to the Norwegian coast “continues to rise sharply”.
Hurtigruten CEO Hedda Felin says, “Demand continues to rise sharply – particularly for journeys that offer authentic experiences, comfort, and a deep connection with nature and culture”.
“As of early May 2025, global bookings for upcoming Signature voyages were up more than 40 percent year-on-year. This strong performance gives us a solid foundation to accelerate further growth.”

Hurtigruten APAC MD Damian Perry says “demand for our Signature voyages has seen remarkable growth across key APAC markets”.
“Bookings have significantly increased year-on-year, and our trade partnerships are contributing to strong double-digit growth. It’s clear that our distinctive offering is appealing to travellers across the region.
“This momentum puts us in an excellent position to grow our footprint and deepen engagement across Asia-Pacific, bringing even more of the authentic Norwegian experience to our guests.”

Perry says to support this growth, MS Vesterålen will rejoin the Original Coastal Express fleet following major upgrades several years go, including new engines and energy-efficiency measures.
And from May 2026, during the European summer season, MS Midnatsol will offer regular sailings between Bergen and Longyearbyen on the Svalbard Line. While in winter, it will alternate with the recently renamed MS Finnmarken on the North Cape Line, departing weekly from Hamburg.
