Virgin Australia has launched a flash sale offering Economy X upgrades from $8 per person, per sector, across its domestic network until 11.59pm (AEST) on 9 July 2026.
The carrier’s extra-legroom Economy X seats are on sale from just $8 each way, a 30 per cent cut on the usual starting upgrade price, across more than 20 domestic routes.
The $8 price points apply to Economy X Exit Row seats booked at least seven days before departure, with the discount running across new and existing bookings until the sale closes.
An Economy X upgrade adds up to 40 per cent more legroom than standard Economy, plus priority boarding, priority check-in where available, and reserved overhead locker space adjacent to the seat.
Which routes are in the sale

The $8 starting price is available in both directions on a string of high-traffic domestic city pairs, including Sydney to Melbourne, Sydney to Brisbane, and Brisbane to Melbourne.
Other eligible routes include Sydney to Gold Coast, Hobart, Hamilton Island and Launceston; Melbourne to Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart and Newcastle; Brisbane to Hamilton Island, Adelaide, Newcastle, Mackay and Rockhampton; plus Gold Coast to Canberra and Adelaide to Canberra, Alice Springs and Launceston.
Virgin Australia chief marketing and customer operations officer Libby Minogue said the sale offers strong value for travellers wanting extra comfort.

“We know Australians are looking for great value, and this sale delivers exactly that,” said Ms Minogue.
“For many guests, a little extra space can make a big difference, particularly on longer journeys, and we’re pleased to make that experience available from just $8.
“As the first airline in Australia to introduce a dedicated extra-legroom Economy X product, we’re proud to continue giving travellers more choice, comfort and value every time they fly.”
