Iain Summers has stepped into a new role as General Manager across Helloworld Travel’s Magellan and Helloworld Business Travel (HWBT) networks.
The internal promotion follows Summers’ two-year tenure leading the Magellan Travel group, which he joined in August 2023. According to Helloworld Travel, his ability to engage and support the Magellan network made him a natural fit for the expanded dual-network leadership role.
Overseeing both Magellan and Helloworld Business Travel
Summers will now oversee both the Magellan and HWBT networks. To support the scale of the role, he will be backed by two dedicated staff members tasked with maintaining daily contact across both groups.
“I am very much looking forward to working closely with such an established group of business travel industry professionals, and to the exciting times and achievements that lie ahead!” Summers said.
Summers’ career background includes experience in travel management and travel technology. This expertise, according to Helloworld Travel, positions him well to deliver value to corporate travel clients across both networks.
A “proven industry performer”
Summers previous roles include senior leadership positions at Amadeus IT Pacific, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, and STA Travel. Originally from Scotland, Summers began his travel career with Thomas Cook and later founded I.S Consulting Group, specialising in travel operations, tech systems and management coaching
Group General Manager Retail Networks Nick Sutherland described Summers as a “proven industry performer”.
“He brings to the Helloworld Business Travel Network outstanding experience having ably led Magellan Travel for the past 2 years.
“Importantly, Iain has extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering value to the corporate market having previously worked in travel management and travel technology; he will be a great asset in supporting and delivering value to both networks.”
The appointment is part of Helloworld Travel’s broader strategy to strengthen its business and corporate travel offerings while maintaining deep connections with independent agents.
KARRYON UNPACKS: Summers’ expanded remit reflects a practical step toward simplifying leadership across Helloworld’s core business travel networks. For agents within Magellan and HWBT, it means continuity from a leader already familiar with the group and the addition of a support structure designed to enhance day-to-day responsiveness. While the networks remain distinct, the shared oversight could foster more cohesive operational delivery and support.
