Virgin Australia launched its inaugural direct Perth–Doha service today, 26 June 2025, unlocking one-stop access to more than 170 destinations through Qatar Airways’ international network for Western Australians for the first time.

It’s the latest route to debut for the Virgin Australia-Qatar Airways alliance as the Australian airline returned to both long-haul flying and the ASX in the past two weeks.

Sydney–Doha and Brisbane–Doha flights are already underway and Melbourne services will start in December 2025.

The new Australia–Doha services on Qatar Airways’ Boeing B777 aircraft will offer elevated service offerings, including Qsuite Business Class, inflight amenities and loyalty benefits for Australian flyers.

By December 2025, the alliance will boost annual flight capacity from Australia to Doha to 2.65 million seats, increasing market competition and providing more choice for Aussie travellers to visit Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Virgin Australia CEO Dave Emerson said the inaugural Australia-Doha flights represent a pivotal moment for the airline and Aussie travellers.

“These flights mark the beginning of a new era for Virgin Australia and for international travel from Australia. Through our partnership with Qatar Airways, we’re not just launching new routes, we’re opening the world to millions of Australians, delivering more choice, better value and a seamless global experience,” he said.

“This partnership strengthens Australia’s global connectivity while generating jobs, boosting tourism and injecting billions into the national economy.”

Qatar Airways Group CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said the carrier was delighted to welcome the third of four new scheduled routes for 2025.

“This milestone moment in the partnership between our two airlines is the culmination of many months of meticulous planning and tireless dedication of our respective teams as well as a testament to our shared ambition to deliver increased competition, world-class service and value to Australian passengers,” he said.

Discounted Virgin Australia fares to Doha and Europe are now on sale until 30 June 2025 for select travel dates between 16 October 2025 and 31 March 2026.
