Travellers flying through Sydney Airport will now spot a familiar red fleet of vehicles. From today, SkyBus has officially begun operations at the nation’s busiest gateway, marking the brand’s first foray into the NSW capital.

The move comes after SkyBus, owned by transport operator Kinetic, secured a five-year contract to provide airside and landside transport services across the airport precinct. That includes everything from terminal shuttles to essential airside transfers.

Already a well-known name in Melbourne and Hobart for its express airport-to-city services, SkyBus carries more than three million passengers each year.

The Sydney launch sees 40 buses roll out from a dedicated airport depot, with plans to transition the entire fleet to electric vehicles over the course of the contract.

“SkyBus has earned a reputation for operational excellence at major airports, and we’re bringing that same specialised expertise to both airside and landside services at Sydney Airport,” Kinetic Managing Director (Australia) Matthew Campbell said.

“Our airside bussing services in particular will play an important role in supporting Sydney Airport’s expansion plans, ensuring passengers and airport operations are seamlessly connected as demand continues to grow.

“As the regional leader in bus electrification, we share Sydney Airport’s strong commitment to sustainability and look forward to working closely with them to bring more zero-emission buses to the precinct.”

For SkyBus, it’s another step in its steady growth, adding Sydney to an airport precinct portfolio that already spans Melbourne, Adelaide and Auckland.

“Our passengers are at the heart of everything we do, and ensuring they can move effortlessly through the airport is a key part of the experience,” Leanne Geraghty, Sydney Airport General Manager Passenger Experience said.

“Partnering with SkyBus will allow us to deliver efficient transport services across the precinct, while also supporting our transition to a fully electric fleet. This means passengers can look forward to smoother connections today, and a more sustainable journey into the future.”

Last week, Sydney Airport unveiled plans for its biggest terminal shake-up since the 2000 Sydney Olympics, proposing to link its domestic and international operations in a single precinct by 2045. For travellers who have long endured the shuffle between terminals, the change could mark a turning point in the airport experience.
