It’s never been easier for Victorian travellers to respond to the call of Bali’s postcard-perfect villas, Indian Ocean sunsets, and food so pretty it feels wrong to eat it, thanks to Garuda Indonesia’s two new flights to Denpasar.

Bringing the total Garuda Indonesia weekly flights between Melbourne and Denpasar to 11, the two new scheduled departures – GA710 from Bali to Melbourne and GA711 from Melbourne to Bali – take off every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

The new return flight time is genius, btw. It lands at Melbourne Tullamarine at 10 pm, making it ideal to head straight to work the next morning to humblebrag about your Bali vacay (and tan) while it’s fresh!

Garuda Indonesia also offers four weekly departures from the Victorian capital to Jakarta (every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday). The flights connect to an international network that extends as far as Amsterdam to the west and Tokyo and Seoul to the north.

As a full-service airline, you’ll enjoy complimentary food and drink services, including dishes like nasi goreng and beef rendang. It’s a brilliant way to get that first taste of Indonesian cuisine, slipping you into holiday mode before you’ve even landed.

You’ll also enjoy quality entertainment, USB and power outlets, and the warmth of Indonesia’s famous hospitality.

The business

With the only fully flat Business Class service from Australia to Denpasar and Jakarta, you’re guaranteed the most comfort on these routes.

Garuda’s Business Class also offers staggered seating with direct aisle access for every traveller on their A333, an ottoman for added comfort (before transforming to a lie-flat bed), and the innovative eX2 Panasonic in-flight entertainment system.

We love Garuda’s two Business Class amenity kits. Outbound travellers get a Yogyakarta Parang Batik design honouring Indonesia’s famous wax-dyed print, whereas inbound business passengers get Porsche Design’s sleek amenity kit. The eco-conscious kits include 100% PET recycled socks and bamboo toothbrush in sustainable paper, along with the usual items like an eye mask, earplugs, and slippers.

Garuda Indonesia’s Business Class lounges in Denpasar and Jakarta allow for additional perks and comfort. There’s also partner lounge access at Marhaba Lounge in Melbourne and Singapore.

With nearly 40 domestic locations, Indonesia’s treasures are accessible for Australians, including these on-trend hot spots:

  • Bali: No surprises that Bali is Indonesia’s top tropical destination. Its popular beaches, rich culture, lush landscapes, and spiritual retreats attract adventure-seeking, wellness-loving Australian travellers.
  • Jakarta: The Indonesian capital suits business travellers, those visiting family and relatives, and is Garuda’s main transit hub.
  • Mentawai Islands: Where once a rickety boat ferried travellers to the remote Mentawai Islands, now Garuda Indonesia offers the ultimate convenience, depositing eco-tourists and adventure seekers on the island’s pristine beaches, premier surf, and to dive or snorkel the abundant marine biodiversity.
  • Yogyakarta: Iconic heritage sites like Borobudur (as seen on the recent Amazing Race Australia) and Prambanan await travellers to Yogyakarta. This cultural and educational hub welcomes exchange students and academics to its universities and international programmes.

Garuda Indonesia offers affordable connections across Asia, the Middle East, and as far away as Amsterdam. Here are four hot-right-now international destinations you can reach from Australia via Denpasar or Jakarta.

  • Tokyo: How does a dual vacay sound? Spend some time in Bali or Jakarta before connecting to Japan. Flights land in both of Tokyo’s international airports: Haneda (closer to the city centre) and Narita.
  • Seoul: The rise and rise of travel to Korea is accessible thanks to Garuda’s Bali and Jakarta connections to Seoul’s Incheon Airport. You’ll be eating bibimbap in Gangnam in no time.
  • Amsterdam: Travel to the famous canals, iconic art museums, vibrant tulip fields, and eclectic vibes of the Netherlands’ most famous city. Our pick? Detour to Yogyakarta on your flight home.
  • Singapore: Whether it’s a bleisure trip to Jakarta followed by culturally rich Singapore, or a one-stop flight to the Lion City, leave Melbourne at 3 pm, landing in Singapore by 10 pm.
