Virgin Australia is upping the ante in the extra-legroom battle, rolling out a limited-time Virgin Australia Economy X upgrade sale from $15 across its domestic network.
Virgin Australia is doubling down on comfort, launching a limited-time Economy X sale that offers extra-legroom seat upgrades from $15 per person, per sector, on all domestic flights.
The ‘Extra Comfort, Zero Imitation’ Economy X sale is available on Virgin Australia domestic flight bookings made until 3 March 2026, positioning the airline squarely in the premium economy-lite conversation following Qantas’ recent Economy Plus long-haul announcement.
Virgin Australia first introduced Economy X in 2017, offering travellers 40 per cent more legroom (around three inches) alongside priority boarding and dedicated overhead locker space with the airline saying the product has long delivered value-focused comfort for flyers.
A Virgin Australia spokesperson said innovation has always set the airline apart, even as competitors move into the extra-legroom space.
“We’ve always believed Australians want choice, value and a better experience in the air; Virgin Australia Economy X has been delivering exactly that for years so it’s no surprise others are now taking notice,” the spokesperson said.
“We’re continuing to showcase just how wonderful the Economy X experience is for travellers, from priority check-in and boarding to preferred overhead locker space, while offering the best-value extra-legroom Economy seating in the market from just $15 per person.”
Sale highlights include Economy X upgrades from $15 (per person, per sector) on select routes in both directions, such as Sydney to Hamilton Island, Sydney to Melbourne, Brisbane to Adelaide, Melbourne to Canberra and Adelaide to Alice Springs.
On longer routes, Economy X upgrades are priced from $23 (per person, per sector), including Melbourne to Sunshine Coast, Sydney to Perth, Adelaide to Cairns and Brisbane to Hobart.
Outside the sale, Virgin Australia offers Economy X upgrades year-round from $15 per person, per sector on domestic flights, and from $58 per person, per sector on short-haul international routes.
