Fiji Gateway Hotel expands for growing Fiji visitor demand

Fiji Gateway Hotel has unveiled 47 new rooms and expanded dining facilities as rising visitor numbers drive demand for more accommodation near Nadi International Airport.

Fiji Gateway Hotel has unveiled 47 new rooms and expanded dining facilities as rising visitor numbers drive demand for more accommodation near Nadi International Airport.

Raffe Hotels & Resorts has completed a major expansion at Fiji Gateway Hotel, adding 47 new rooms and suites alongside an enlarged Palm Court Restaurant designed to better accommodate growing traveller demand.

Located directly opposite Nadi International Airport, the property has long positioned itself as a convenient stopover and pre- or post-island base for visitors travelling through Fiji. The latest development increases the hotel’s total inventory from 95 rooms to 135.

The expansion includes 44 Deluxe Rooms and three Two-Bedroom Suites, giving the property more flexibility for couples, families, groups and business travellers.

According to the hotel group, the new accommodation mix features 24 Deluxe King Rooms with a king bed and sofa bed, along with 20 Deluxe Twin Rooms featuring two queen beds.

The company says the three new Two-Bedroom Suites have been designed to support longer stays and family travel.

How does the expansion respond to Fiji’s tourism growth?

Raffe Hotels & Resorts CEO Lee Pearce said the decision to expand was driven by sustained occupancy levels and increasing visitor arrivals into Fiji.

“Fiji Gateway Hotel has consistently operated at high occupancy, and with surging visitor numbers, we recognised the need to expand our accommodation and dining offerings,” Pearce said.

“These new rooms and the additional restaurant space allow us to provide more choice and comfort for our guests, while ensuring they continue to enjoy the warm hospitality and tropical charm that Fiji Gateway is known for.”

The operator highlights that the property caters to a broad mix of travellers, including transit passengers travelling between Australia, New Zealand and other international destinations.

The hotel is also frequently used for short stays before and after outer island holidays, alongside dining visits from nearby accommodation guests.

What design influences shaped the new rooms?

The interiors for the new accommodation wing were created by New Zealand-based Furnz Group, with the design drawing heavily on Fiji’s natural environment and cultural identity.

The updated spaces feature softened timber tones, organic textures and handcrafted local elements designed to create a contemporary tropical feel.

Locally made woven baskets and wall hangings have been incorporated throughout the rooms to strengthen the connection to Fijian culture and craftsmanship.

The hotel also partnered with Rise Beyond the Reef, a Fijian non-profit organisation supporting rural Indigenous women and families, to develop bespoke room pieces featured throughout the expansion.

According to the operator, the collaboration aims to preserve traditional craftsmanship while supporting local communities economically.

Landscaped pathways now connect the new accommodation wing with existing guest facilities, including two swimming pools, spa services and a tennis court.

What’s new at Palm Court Restaurant?

As part of the redevelopment, Fiji Gateway Hotel has also expanded Palm Court Restaurant, doubling the venue’s capacity.

The upgraded dining space now includes a new indoor dining room alongside the property’s existing open-air setting.

The hotel says the changes were designed to improve flexibility and comfort for guests across breakfast, lunch and dinner service.

Fiji Gateway Hotel continues to offer complimentary 24/7 airport shuttle transfers along with gym facilities, a café, bar and family-friendly pool amenities including a waterslide and shaded lounging areas.

The property has operated for more than 50 years and remains one of the closest hotels to Fiji’s main international gateway.
