Australian searches for FIFA World Cup 2026 host cities across North America climbed sharply after tickets went on sale last year with one US destination a clear standout.
Boston jumped 228 places year-on-year to rank as the 21st most-searched city among Australian travellers in the week after FIFA World Cup tickets were released, the largest single move of any destination in Booking.com‘s latest data.
The figures cover searches made between 11 and 18 December 2025 for stays from 11 June to 19 July 2026, the window that covers this year’s FIFA World Cup, hosted across the US, Canada and Mexico.
The data suggests Aussies began planning around the FIFA World Cup 2026 well before the Socceroos confirmed their path through the finals with booking interest based on attending rather than any result on the pitch.
Which host cities are Aussies searching

Boston led the movers, but Vancouver climbed 48 places to become the 14th most-searched city among Aussie travellers – the strongest performer of the Canadian host cities, and the location of the Socceroos’ first FIFA World Cup 2026 match.
Vancouver was also ranked the number-one FIFA World Cup 2026 host city out of all 16 locations by Sports Illustrated, comparing each host city’s venue, match schedule, location, climate, transit, tourist activities, walkability and bonus fan experiences.

Los Angeles rose six spots to 30th, while New York lifted two places to ninth, holding its position as the highest-ranked North American host city overall.
All four sit within the top 30 destinations Aussies searched in the period, alongside the perennial favourites that continue to dominate outbound demand, such as Bali hotspots like Seminyak, Legian and Sanur as the top three most-searched destinations.
What it means for selling 2026

The US and Canada already rank among the top outbound markets for Australian travellers and the staging of FIFA World Cup 2026 adds a clear booking trigger across June and July, building on a US tourism push that has seen the country court Aussie and Kiwi travellers with growing intensity.
With accommodation interest in host cities rising before matches and final qualification are locked in, demand for rooms in Boston, Vancouver, LA and NYC looks set to tighten as the event nears.
KARRYON UNPACKS: The numbers point to North America competing with Bali for Australian attention, with FIFA World Cup 2026 host city rooms in high demand. Travellers who searched and booked early were most likely to lock in flights and packaged stays before matches and finals drive prices up.
