After debuting the route in late 2025, United Airlines will reduce its next seasonal service between Adelaide and San Francisco by half.
In its first season, United operated the route from mid-December to March 2026; it had planned to operate a similar schedule over the next summer travel period.
However, the carrier has now confirmed it will operate a significantly shorter season in 2026-2027, flying the route from 17 December to 8 February 2027 southbound (19 December-10 February 2027 northbound), instead of 3 December to 25 March 2027.
Elsewhere, the American carrier has confirmed it will cut back its Brisbane-San Francisco service from daily to five-times-weekly during parts of the summer holiday period.
United’s reduced schedule will apply from 27 October to 29 November 2026 southbound (29 October-1 December 2026 northbound) and 12 January to 24 January 2027 southbound (14 January-26 January 2027 northbound).
United Airlines was the first American carrier to operate scheduled non-stop flights between the US mainland and Brisbane in October 2022.
“We regularly make changes to our schedule due to aircraft availability, market dynamics and other factors,” United Airlines told Karryon in an email, confirming the new South Australian and Queensland schedules.
More arm room
Meanwhile, United Airlines is introducing a new Economy Plus seating option featuring an open middle seat on its incoming A321XLR aircraft.
The new configuration replaces the middle seat in one row with a fixed shared table, giving window and aisle passengers extra personal space alongside the additional legroom already included in Economy Plus.
The carrier intends to roll out the product across its entire fleet of 50 A321XLRs and is also considering it for other aircraft types.
United says it expects to be the only US airline offering this seating concept, which follows its recently announced United Relax Row product, slated to debut in early 2027.
Sales are expected to open later this year, with pricing to be revealed closer to launch.
“The XLR is our newest aircraft and not only offers all-aisle access lie-flat seats in United Polaris but now also includes seats in Economy Plus with extra leg and elbow room,” United executive vice president and chief commercial officer Andrew Nocella said.
“Our customers are going to love all these new options.”
