Virgin America's inflight Wi-Fi will be so fast you can stream Netflix

Recognising the pet peeve, Virgin America has unveiled plans to upgrade its Wi-Fi system on its fleet so Internet would be among the fastest at 32,000 feet.

The airline says the new service being provided by Wi-Fi company ViaSatit will be ten times faster than the speed of current internet available on its planes.

That’s pretty fast. So fast in fact that travellers could stream TV shows and movies from sites such as Netflix.

Virgin America is even going as far as to say its Wi-Fi will be faster than Internet available in some houses.

The new technology will be installed in Virgin America planes later this year. Ten of the newest A320s will be the first to receive the faster service in September.

Once the system has been tested and approved by passengers it will roll out to the rest of the fleet.

Game of Thrones

Virgin America has Netflix, Qantas has Game of Thrones.

Initially the service will be free of charge, but a pricing system will be created in 2016.

While Virgin America brings fast Wi-Fi to the skies, Australia’s very-own Qantas announced a new partnership with HBO to bring 120 hours of TV and movie content to its network.
