Cathay Pacific today announced a fifth weekly service to The City of Churches commencing 2 December this year.

The move will see the airline increase its capacity on the Hong Kong to Adelaide route by 52 percent, bringing the total number of seats up to 2,500 per week.

The fifth flight CX173 will depart Hong Kong on Wednesday night at around 7.05pm and arrive in Adelaide at 6.20am. It will then return as CX174, leaving Adelaide on Thursday at 7.45am and arriving in Hong Kong at 2.00pm.

With the additional flight, Cathay will have services operating out of Adelaide every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Cathay’s General Manager, Nelson Chin, said the additional services gives South Australian travellers ‘more flexibility’ when planning a holiday.

“Our flights have been very popular and we have seen increased numbers of tourists into Adelaide from mainland China, as well as South Australians taking advantage of the fast connections to China, Asia, London and North America via Hong Kong.”

Chin said after introducing Cathay’s new schedule in April last year, the carrier has seen a surge in demand.

To help drive further demand, Cathay will work closely with Tourism South Australia to promote Hong Kong, mainland China and other key markets

In turn, South Australia’s government will promote tourism to Australia to main markets in Hong Kong and China.

“The additional flight will play a role in helping us reach our goal of 57,000 Chinese visitors by 2020 and build an $8 billion tourism industry by 2020.”
