The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) kicks off its 2023 calendar with a one-day Women in Travel Summit at Swissôtel Sydney on 13 March to celebrate representation and inclusion as well as shape the future of the travel industry.

The Women in Summit will showcase the programs and innovations that support women and have successfully made travel into one of the sectors with the highest female concentration in the workforce.

The event from 9am to 4pm includes keynote speakers plus a series of panel sessions and breakout rooms as well as networking opportunities from 6pm.

A free onsite headshot studio will also be available for attendees to have their professional photos taken.

AFTA CEO Dean Long said the Women in Travel Summit celebrates the industry’s frontline employees and middle management of which women number 72 per cent and 74 per cent respectively.

“The Women in Travel Summit will allow us to draw from and recognise the tremendous expertise and extensive experience across Australia’s travel sector through breakout sessions, industry leaders and keynote speakers across the one-day event,” Mr Long said.

“It promotes the value of diversity and inclusion and allows us to analyse how we continue our great travel culture.

“We are constantly asked by the government and other sectors what travel does differently and this summit will allow the industry to continue to evaluate what we do and plan for the future.

“Plus, on top of learning and networking, we’re going to have a whole lot of fun.”

ATAS businesses and employees can take advantage of special discounted pricing for all events, including the Women in Travel Summit and National Travel Industry Awards (NTIAs) in Melbourne on 18 November 2023.

“AFTA is running in-person events around the country throughout the year to support the industry in reconnecting, learning and thriving,” Mr Long added.

“We want to celebrate what makes our industry great and continue to progress our advocacy agenda as we shape the future of travel together.”
