Back in 1974, a bunch of local farmers near Xian began digging a hole for a well when they unearthed something rather incredible. Buried in the ground were 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, in what is perhaps the biggest example of funerary art ever found.
Commissioned by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, back in 210-209 BC to protect his journey in the afterlife, the buried terracotta army is another of China’s incredible bucket-list items that you can cross off your list on the Wu Dynasty Famil.
3. MEET THE CUDDLY PANDAS
Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and see these cuddly creatures in their natural habitat whilst learning about the issues currently facing the species.
