Keen to add more revenue to your business? Want even more industry secrets on how to up your commission and make your clients happier? We caught up with Leonie Clay and Julie Woodall, sister owners of My Travel Expert, to talk all things Cash Passport, including why they love it, top tips for selling more of it, and how it saves the day.

When did you start using Cash Passport?

Leonie Clay
Leonie tells Karryon her winning Cash Passport sales secrets

“When Cash Passport first landed on our desks (maybe late 1990s?), we remember excitedly thinking, “Wow, no more traveller’s cheques!”.

We’re both “do you want fries with that” agents; anything we can do to increase our revenue is a bonus. The benefits that Cash Passport also gave our clients, however, went far beyond anything compared to what traveller’s cheques could do.

Since then, it has evolved from being mainly an ATM card with limited currencies and abilities to a card no traveller should be overseas without!”

How has Cash Passport impacted your clients’ travels?

“Cash Passport serves our clients by acting like their holiday savings piggy bank, storing money on it monthly until they travel. We happily earn commission on every load.”

Do you have any client traveller’s tales where the Cash Passport saved the day?

Leonie: “I had a situation where a client had everything stolen, and she needed a new card. The support was fabulous: she got funds instantly and her new card was issued within two days.”

What do you enjoy about complementing the travel you book with Cash Passport?

We enjoy supporting their itineraries with the currencies they’ll need as they travel. For example, if they are stopping in Dubai, we’ll add dirhams. Heading on to Europe? We’ll add Euros and pounds. It really is so easy.”

What is your number one tip for new agents offering Cash Passport to their clients?

“Read up about the product: it’s not just an ATM card. Also, use it yourself when you travel, it is the best way to take your holiday cash with you.

We also recommend making it a habit to suggest Cash Passport to your clients; it demonstrates you truly are a one-stop-shop. We add a question to their booking form about their travel funds.”

Where have you travelled with your Cash Passport, and what benefits did you enjoy?

Leonie: “I used Cash Passport in India, though I was a bit worried as the ATMs there are virtually just holes in the wall, with a guard nearby. It was hassle-free though, and I was soon shopping, cash in hand.”

What are common client misconceptions about Cash Passport?

“Most clients think they will be getting the exchange rate they see on the TV. We explain that while they won’t match the money market, the rates will be competitive.”

Who discovered Cash Passport first? Did you share the intel with your sister?

Leonie: “As I’ve been in the industry longer, I would have discovered Cash Passport first, but I couldn’t keep it a secret from Julie.

We compete to see who can sell the most, so it was happy days when we recently BOTH won the Cash Passport competition!
