Chimu's Calm To Chaos Doco Premiere Evokes All The Travel Industry Feels

Last night at 8 pm, Karryon proudly screened the premiere of Chimu Adventures ‘2020 Calm To Chaos’ feature-length documentary on its Facebook Page, and the response from the travel industry was an overwhelmingly positive one.

Calm to Chaos is a 40-minute documentary created by Chimu Adventures that takes you behind the scenes of one of the extraordinary travel events of our lifetimes.

This remarkable Together In Travel story lifts the veil on what happened in the travel industry in March 2020, as borders around the globe were suddenly deadlocked due to the outbreak of COVID-1 leaving passengers stranded the world over.

With a sense of duty, Chimu set about to organise the repatriation of hundreds of stranded Australians from South America, not only their own travellers but also other, non-associated Australians, who had no other options to return home.

What ensued was a stream of endless days and nights as the red tape was battled on foreign shores and home ground to make it happen.

Whilst the tale focuses on the Chimu story, the goal of this documentary was to tell the tale from an operator’s perspective and act as a representative of potentially thousands of similar stories from within the travel industry all over the world, stories which continue today.

And the response from the travel industry since the premiere last night?

Just hours after going live, the doco has already notched up 2,000 views with the video being hailed by the travel industry as a much-needed story and message that echoes the experience and sentiments of travel agents everywhere since the pandemic began.

Arianna Albertazzi said “Amazing! Loved watching this. I’m sure the whole industry knew about your charter flight but wouldn’t have a clue about the background logistics of it all. Well done to the Chimu team. You should be so proud.”

While Helen Mavraganis said “An Incredible outcome by Chimu. Congratulations to all concerned. Going above and beyond to get their clients and fellow Aussies back home. This is a standout company. What a lovely video.”

Heralding the adversity met by the entire travel industry during this time, Chimu Co-Founder Chad Carey said he recognises the achievements of every travel industry member.

“Although 2020 Calm to Chaos is the story of Chimu’s experience at the onset of COVID 19, I hope this story resonates with people in the travel industry generally, people who also fought hard to get their clients home.

“If nothing else, I hope this documentary makes everyone in the industry proud of what we collectively achieved at that time. Not only did we all get people home, but we did it the face of adversity so great that it threatened the very existence of our entire industry.”

The doco was made entirely in-house by the Chimu team and directed and produced by Chimu Marketing Manager Meg Hall and designer Rebecca Hamerton.

“The travel industry stories represented in the media, thus far, have largely focused on where things have gone wrong. Yet, to date, no one has taken an honest look behind the closed doors of our collapsed industry and how we operated under incredible pressure when the borders fell. By telling the Chimu story I hope to represent the industry at large, we are all in the business of looking after people and with no income and no security for the future, we, as an industry continue to do so. Why? Because we care.”
