A Once In A Generational Chance For Doing The Right Thing

As a young girl, my Mother walked out of the WW2 rubble that was her home. She was alone and isolated but not for long because the world, having gone through years of hardships, was now changing for the better.

People realised quickly, we were all in this together and that was the only way anything would get solved.

Not since WW2 has the planet seen anything like CV19 and the same question emerges. Will we figure out the solution requires everyone’s engagement? We are in this together and if you don’t think the above is true, think about President Trump invoking ‘war powers’ and describing himself as a wartime President.

Science is going at a million miles an hour trying to find a solution and governments are looking for economic countermeasures, while we go into survival mode keeping our distance, going into seclusion, withdrawal, and solitude.

So as much as this crisis is about isolation it’s even more about connection and humanity.

So what can you do about it?

We live in a fully connected planet, with no excuses not to speak with each other, not to connect with each other and not to support each other. As the music of Italian balconies brought people together, you too can find ways to alleviate the distance created by this monstrous situation.

Create connections, create groups and create reasons to stay united. No one should be alone, no one should feel isolated and no one should do this solo.

Right now, call someone, text someone, nudge, poke, emoji someone. Ask them if they are ok, send them a funny picture, tell them you are here if they need anything and be prepared to relate and share the same anxieties everyone is feeling because the sharing of concerns always lessens anxiety.

Sometimes it’s hard to get out of your own way and your own selfishness, but if not now, then when?

We got over WW2 with historic acts of kindness, governments working together and neighbours looking after each other.

This is a once in a generational time to do the right thing.
