Meg Hall from Chimu Adventures and Michelle Desmarchelier from TravelManagers Berowra are set to champion KARRYON’s #traveltochangetheworld as they join a convoy of teams in Shitbox Rally.
For those who don’t know, Shitbox Rally is a challenge to drive cars worth $1,000 or less across Australia via some of its toughest roads to raise money for cancer research. The event has raised more than $11.9 million since the first rally in 2010.
In its ninth year, the event will feature two dedicated industry professionals who will drive from Brisbane on 19 May to Darwin by 25 May 2018.
Michelle said the cause is very close to both their hearts as they’ve both witnessed the effects of cancer first-hand.
“We are embarking on this adventure in their honour and know that we will have every single one of those we’ve lost, those still fighting and the amazing warriors who’ve vanquished this horrible disease sitting on our shoulders cheering us on.”
Michelle Desmarchelier, TravelManagers
Part of the participation is that all teams must raise a minimum of $4,000 and they’ve already smashed this goal and will continue to fundraise until the journey is over. These funds go to the Cancer Council and they are extremely proud to be doing their part to support such a worthy charity.
Michelle and Meg will be driving in convoy with over 200 teams on unsealed roads, crossing rivers and camping out every night. Driving days will be anywhere from five- to- 10 hours each day.
Meg from Chimu Adventures said she has no doubt the event will “quite the challenge”, but it’s something she’s ready to undertake with someone she’s known for over 20 years.
“We’ve stood side by side as we’ve farewelled parents and grandparents to cancer, as well as supporting each other through many other challenges life has thrown at us and creating some hilarious memories in the process, so a bit of dust, dirt and grease will add to our toolbox of memories.”
Meg Hall, Chimu Adventures Marketing Manager
Travel company Chimu Adventures has backed their marketing manager with sponsorship and offering a trip to Antarctica up for auction, with the proceeds going toward the Cancer Council.
Chimu is well known for running charitable cruises of their own to Antarctica with proceeds supporting various charities. Over the past few years, they’ve managed to raise over a quarter of a million dollars supporting the likes of the McGrath Foundation, Love Your Sister, Mission Mexico and the Mawson’s Huts Foundation.
“When Meg said she and Michelle from TravelManagers were going to drive across the outback in a clapped our car, raising funds for the Cancer council, we backed her in a heartbeat and can’t wait to get the tales in from the road.”
