Did you know the Pentagon is actually based in Virginia, not Washington DC? It’s just one of the many fun facts Gate 7, Virginia’s new Aussie tourism representatives, can teach you.

Ahead of Virginia Tourism Corporation’s appearance at IPW19 in Anaheim on 1-5 June, the tourism board took a firm stand in the local market by appointing Gate 7 to head all its Australian marketing activity.

As part of the new gig, Gate 7’s Senior Account Manager, Penny Brand – who was appointed to lead marketing activities – will educate and help Travel Agents sell The Old Dominion State, while also building destination awareness and keeping it top of mind among Aussie travellers.

The marketing experts will also push Virginia Tourism Corporation’s new branding ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ and hopefully, increase Australian visitor numbers from the 100,000 who visited the Capital Region USA (featuring Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland) in 2017.

“We are delighted to begin a partnership with the highly reputable Gate 7 and utilise the team’s expertise to increase outbound travel to Virginia.”

Rita McClenny, Virginia Tourism Corporation President & Chief Executive

“Virginia offers everything travellers want in a holiday, from our 45kms of warm sunny beaches to the world-famous Appalachian Mountain Range. Whether you prefer to simply sightsee or adventuresome exploration, we feature a wealth of attractions to fit the bill.”

Three facts you may not have known about Virginia, according to McClenny:

  • It’s home to a number of iconic outdoor destinations, including the Appalachian Mountains
  • Virginia is considered the Oyster Capital of the East Coast and is famous for its fresh food
  • The state has over 200 craft breweries and 70 distilleries

Virgin Tourism Corporation will make an appearance at IPW19, which is being held in Anaheim from 1-5 June 2019. KARRYON will be in attendance so keep an eye out for more news direct from the US.
