By Anthony Valeriano29 Nov 2018I’m still laughing from my funniest interview to date. How could you not love Anastasia & Faye from Gogglebox? They’re upfront, honest, opinionated & did I mention really, really funny? But the best part about the funny duo from Gogglebox is that… They’d prefer to book with a Travel Advisor.“I really don’t like the online booking as you don’t know what you are getting,” They agreed during a recent chat with KARRYON at the Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre brochure launch in Sydney earlier this week.Between mingling with Travel Advisors and teaching everyone traditional Greek dances, the pair took time out to answer a few of our questions, and once they started, we couldn’t get them to stop talking (typical Greeks, am I right?).Read on for the full interview. WHERE IN GREECE HAVE YOU BEEN ON HOLIDAY?MykonosFaye: I went to Greece two years ago and we went from Athens to Kalamata and then to Crete and I fell in love with the southern part of Greece. In 1995 for my honeymoon I went to Meteora and actually climbed the steps and sat in the tray.I had to wear long old skirts and shirts. I don’t know how they built those places. What happened to our Greek men now? They hardly do the edges or the lawn now? There’s not a lot of Greek men that cook and clean these days.Anastasia: I was just in Greece in August and was there for seven weeks. I went to Crete, Mykonos, Santorini and Zakynthos. If I had to go back anywhere it would be Santorini. HAVE YOU BOTH TRAVELLED TOGETHER?Faye: No we haven’t but we both would like to do the islands where there are not a lot of tourists.Anastasia: Cause the islands that are popular are very commercialised, when you go there you don’t see the real Greek authenticity. So to get the real thing of Greece, you need to go to the smaller islands like Milos and Samos where the tourists don’t go.This is what we would like to do next. Mykonos is very American. Why have an American breakfast when you are in Greece? Mykonos is very expensive unless you’re loaded.Faye: Look in 1995, I went to those little islands and we got around with donkeys. It would be better to have more donkey’s. That would be very nice. WHICH CELEBRITY WOULD YOU TAKE ON A HOLIDAY WITH YOU?Faye: Someone hot. She would take George Clooney.Anastasia: What from Australia or anywhere in the world? I would take Zac Efron. I would take him anywhere. To heaven and back… lol.Faye: I would definitely take Bradley Cooper and would not let him go near any garage. DO YOU BOOK YOUR TRIPS THROUGH A TRAVEL AGENT?Anastasia: I have in the past but now when I went in August I booked online but it was ok because I knew what I was doing but when I booked Mykonos we were nowhere near where we wanted to be.At night we just couldn’t walk out of the hotel and walk around town. We were in the wrong place. In that respect, I really don’t like the online booking as you don’t know what you are getting until you get there and that’s what happened to us in Mykonos. Faye: Our next trip, we will get advice from Greece and Mediterranean as to which agent to book from. Get their advice. WHY SHOULD PEOPLE TRAVEL TO GREECEFaye: Beaches, sand, black rocks, seashells and fish that nip at the back of your legs. Salt and floating water. You can jump off the cliffs. Enough for quietness and for the wild people who like cliff-hanging which I love.Anastasia: Greece is about their hospitality, their generosity and their beautiful scenery.Faye: And food, the fresh octopus. Mmm…Anastasia: I won’t say food as I really didn’t enjoy unless my aunties cooked.Anastasia: We are lovers, not fighters. We are known for our hospitality. We are a hospitable race. ON YOUR NEXT TRIP WHAT MUST YOU TAKE ONBOARD?Faye: Bikinis, more bikinis and bottom bikinisAnastasia: A jacket, kidless and no mother WOULD YOU ESCORT A GROUP TO GREECE?Faye: Yes for sure. My niece took me around Athens. I would do so much. I love the side streets and all the little coffee shops and the food is amazing.Til’ 3 am, 4 am to eat Octopus. Of course, you get your souvlaki but you can’t eat that all the time. We had lots of fresh fish. The villagers blocked the streets and had a big food festival.Anastasia: Where was that at?Faye: They made us stay and enjoy the party. It was a small village up in Crete. WOULD YOU DO A TRAVEL SHOW?Faye: Oh shit yeah are you kidding me?Anastasia: I watch travel shows all the time. When I was in Greece with my family and mum, I said to my mum, I would make a good tour guide. I was actually telling the Americans and the English I was explaining to them everything about our history. When I was in Crete where the Minos use to be, I told them. There is a church where the saint is still in his coffin. He has been there for thousands of years. It used to be open. This Saint once a year on his name day apparently he gets up and walks around. His shoes are worn out and they have to change his shoes every year. It’s a true story.Faye: Wow where is that in Crete?Anastasia: No it’s in Zakynthos. You see these are the things that people don’t know. Greeks have invented a lot of things. WHAT DID GREEKS INVENT AGAIN?Faye: Greeks have invented a lot of things. It’s true. A lot of main things. All the BIG things they have invented. Astronomy, Mathematics.Anastasia: Pap Smears. A Greek invented that. He invented that.Faye: A Greek guyAnastasia: Papa Nicola or something. He invented the Pap Smear. He tested on his wife. Lucky man.Faye: Poor women, I wouldn’t have wanted to be his wife.Anastasia: You see his invention has withstood the test of time. You know what I mean.Faye: We muck around but she is damn right. There is a lot that the Greeks have invented. I stir her up.Anastasia: Democracy, Aristotle OK OK, WE ARE DONE. ANY FINAL WORDS?Faye: Ok, quick selfie but did you know in Italy there is a town called Greco and they only speak Greek?Anastasia: Ah the Italians and Greeks are so close. Just remember to tag Zac Efron in the story. READ: MAD FOR THE MED: GMTC new brochure launchREAD: Where to find the best Greek food?
