An Australian of the Year, a futurist and a neuroscientist have been announced as the speakers for the 2023 TravelManagers National Conference to be held in Christchurch, New Zealand from 31 August to 2 September.

In line with the theme, ‘Future Fit’, this year’s Travel Managers Conference will be opened by futurist Gihan Perera and closed by 2023 Australian of the Year and body-positive activist Taryn Brumfitt.

A workshop on ‘Optimising Mental Fitness’ will be facilitated by Mind Body Brain Institute’s Paul Taylor, a neuroscientist, exercise physiologist, nutritionist and former British Royal Navy Aircrew Officer who will share his expertise on resilience strategies.

As well as his keynote address, Perera will also conduct a workshop entitled: ‘The New Rules for High Performance – Channelling Chaos for Staying Ahead’.

Resilience, innovation and adaption are part of being ‘future fit’, according to TravelManagers Executive General Manager Michael Gazal.

“‘Future fitness’ entails constantly fine-tuning the way business is conducted: streamlining processes and adopting new technologies are necessary to facilitate such adjustments,” he said.

“It also requires ongoing learning and skill development, partnering with the right people, mitigating future risks and anticipating business and consumer needs.”

These concepts will be explored across the three-day event, ending with a closing address around Brumfitt’s belief that resilience, tenacity and polite persistence trump luck every time, which is sure to provide a strong conclusion to the conference.

TravelManagers’ upcoming offshore conference is the first held overseas since the pandemic and the first staged in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The location of Ōtautahi Christchurch is a nod to TravelManagers’ parent company House of Travel, which began there in 1987.
