With the pandemic having put travel on pause for so long, ‘pent up demand’ for international long haul and domestic travel is now rapidly building to boom again. As we move ever closer to a ‘go’ date, the industry is now readying to restart and scale up in personnel to prepare for take off.
As the old sayings go – ‘Never let a crisis go to waste, or ‘Any kind of crisis can be good. It wakes you up.’
Eighteen months into the pandemic, the demand for business resilience and the reinvention of the travel industry has been questioned to the extreme.
Thankfully we are now finally coming out of the other side with the possibility of international travel arriving ever closer by the day.
However, ask anyone working in travel to detail the looming challenges facing the sector and it’s extremely likely that the business of recruiting expertise and talent will be one of them.
It’s no secret to anyone that the pandemic has displaced and devastated the industry of personnel and expertise across every sector in Australia and the world.
How can we rebuild and restart the travel and tourism industry to meet rising and soon to be immediate demand?
JIVARO Recruitment is an Australian based boutique recruitment agency with offices in Sydney and Melbourne, which have increased their portfolio of industries they currently represent by recently opening a new division to service aviation, travel and tourism.
The Aviation and Travel division is led by Lindsay White (ex Etihad Airways), a senior airline executive with over 25 years of experience in commercial roles in the UK, Eastern Europe, South America, Asia Pacific, and Australia.
“Having joined the Agency to spearhead this important sector after an extensive international career in commercial aviation, it’s a challenging but also exciting opportunity that will position JIVARO in the travel recruitment arena and help re-build the industry sector with experienced professionals as well as newcomers to the business,”
Sally Suleyman and Neil Ager (also ex Etihad senior management in Australia) have also both recently joined the team at JIVARO as Executive Recruiters, adding industry pedigree and an expansive network of connections in Australia and beyond.
Executive search and expertise for aviation and travel
The business is gaming to position itself through specialist Executive Search and recruitment expertise thanks to the team’s collective and extensive industry knowledge exclusively in the Aviation and Travel sector.
White goes on to say that “Sadly, most of the tourism industry, in all its variations, airlines, cruise companies, travel agencies, travel management companies or tourism boards, have had to cut their staff numbers aggressively. In some cases, you could quickly assess perhaps too deep to support a rapid resumption.”
“With the anticipation that the industry will recover to a reasonable level, competition between all airlines and travel-related companies will be fierce.
“My belief is that if there are people out there that have been in the industry and have had to leave or have been made redundant, there’s probably a really high percentage that does want to come back into it because they just love what they do. I’m hoping that there’ll be a high percentage that will take the risk and come back.”
JIVARO is led by Chantelle James who has been in the recruitment business for the past 16 years, having founded the company and built it into one of Australia’s most respected recruitment firms.
Traditionally focusing on Retail, Fashion and FMCG, she commented, “this new division we’ve created is an exciting one and one that will help us position JIVARO Recruitment as a leader in the aviation and travel recruitment business,” she said.
