The Walshe Group has appointed Alvaro Rodas Fernandez as Chief Commercial Officer, a newly created C-suite role designed to drive the next growth phase and a new strategic direction for the Australian and New Zealand airline general sales agent (GSA), service provider and destination marketing organisation (DMO).
Rodas Fernandez brings extensive experience in the travel industry and the sustainability sector to the new role, delivering strategy, growth, commercial outcomes and partnerships.
He spent 10 years in senior roles at Qantas, working across loyalty, sustainability and airline partnerships.
His background also includes managing global alliance relationships and delivering major commercial and revenue strategies across Qantas’ international network.
Most recently, Rodas Fernandez was CCO at RecycleSmart and is also Deputy Chair at Media Diversity Australia.
His appointment forms part of The Walshe Group’s expansion of its executive leadership team with Sonia Cardero as Chief Financial Officer, Jennifer Gaskin as Chief Marketing Officer and Jacqui Walshe, now CEO & Managing Director.
It also follows recent new hires and promotions with Nigel Bale named as Lufthansa Group’s General Manager for Australia & New Zealand, Candice Steffensen as National Sales Manager Australia & New Zealand for South African Airways and Shubham Gulati as National Sales Manager for IndiGo in the Australasian market.
Sydney-based Rodas Fernandez commences as CCO effective immediately.
