Online Celebrations: Travel Counsellors’ Biggest Event Of The Year Goes Virtual

After postponing their annual conference due to concerns of the coronavirus, independent travel company, Travel Counsellors celebrated their highly anticipated event virtually in June.

The annual Travel Counsellors’ conference was brought forward and celebrated online, virtually, rather than at the evening gala in Perth as originally planned.

Regional Managing Director, Kaylene Shuttlewood explains, “It is a challenging time for many business owners in the travel industry. Our focus has always been on the welfare and safety of our Travel Counsellors, and so it has never been more important to bring about an alternative solution for an event everyone looked forward to.”

“The decision to shift our annual conference on to a digital platform was a way to bring together our global Travel Counsellors community in an unprecedented way and let them know with the support of the Australian Head Office team and the wider business, we will come out of this together, stronger than ever.”

An afternoon of inspiration

This virtual event had Travel Counsellors across the country tuned in with cameras on, many of whom were gathered in each other’s homes, ready to celebrate an afternoon of motivational messages, milestones, and inspirational stories. The overarching conference theme of “Moments That Matter” encouraged Travel Counsellors to reflect and speak about the memories they have made and the moments that mattered to them during their time running a home-based travel enterprise.

Opening the conference with a song and dance number performed by the Head Office staff, enthusiastically lip syncing to “Hold My Hand” by Jess Glynne, the event was followed by heart-warming messages from trusted supplier partners.

Milestones that were intended to be celebrated at an evening gala in Perth, were acknowledged and commemorated for several Travel Counsellors who celebrated their tenth year as a business owner and travel agent. Paired with incredible stories that were shared by some of those Travel Counsellors about the moments that matter, it was a day filled with emotion, inspiration, and passion.

Global Sales Director, Jim Eastwood joined the conference with an uplifting message full of hope for the future.

“Green shoots are on the horizon. We are seeing a notable shift with more sales and enquiries being generated week-on-week for travel later this year and beyond. People are starting to look to the future.”

Speaking of the event, Travel Counsellor Susan Burns said; “A massive thank you to the entire Head Office team for putting on today’s conference. It was wonderful to see so many of my colleagues and sponsors recognised for their contribution to the Travel Counsellor family,” while Travel Counsellor Judy Hughes commented: “Such an uplifting conference today despite the challenging times we are all going through as individual business owners and an industry as a whole.”
