There is a very valuable dollar out there for the tourism industry right now: the rainbow dollar, with LGBTIQ+ tourism booming at the moment.
The findings were revealed during the recent Annual General Meeting for Gay & Lesbian Australia (GALTA), a network of tourism professionals dedicated to making sure all LGBTIQ travellers in Australia feel welcome.
GALTA found that there has never been a better time to take advantage of marketing tourism products to the LGBTI+ community.
This is in part due to same-sex marriages and honeymoons providing yet another avenue for tourism operators to expand their customer base.
GALTA president Mario Paez said the future was looking incredibly bright for GALTA members.
“The interest from a much broader spectrum of operators was testament to the fact that GALTA is a valuable resource that new members are flocking to join,” he said.
“With an increase in cruise ship members and wedding celebrants joining us in the last 12 to 18 months, we are now seeing businesses such as airport transfer companies and walking tour companies approaching to join and be able to look after our wonderful LGBT+ community”.

Mario said being GALTA member was “a vital tool” for anyone in the tourism and leisure industry wanting to market to the LGBT+ community and he looked forward to this year being one of the biggest growth years for the organisation in its history.
“There’s plenty to be excited about,” he said.
“GALTA is already the most respected voice in gay and lesbian travel, and this year ahead will cement it as a premium tourism authority”.
