Destination Canada has revamped the Canada Specialist Program, its advisor-training program. It’s easier to learn, easier to sell and it offers real rewards for those travel advisors willing to put in the time to learn about this great destination.

If there is a problem with Canada, it’s that there is too much to do. As the second-largest country on earth it can be daunting to tackle as both a traveller and agent, but once you learn about all the great things on offer, you will have clients queuing up to climb on board a recently restarted Air Canada flight.

Australians regularly spend up to three weeks in Canada, and they will be looking to you to tell them what to do. Destination Canada’s new advisor training program has downloadable videos and images for agents to use on their socials. It has new sales tools to help you get those tricky clients over the line. And it has rewards for those agents who stick with the course modules.

Complete the first four modules and you will end up with a bronze medal and then the leading Canadian champions will be first ones invited to local Destination Canada events and on overseas famils.

How do you get hold of your bronze status? Check out the following four starter modules and get selling:

1. Welcome to Canada

When you think of Canada you think of soaring mountains topped with pure white snow, moose wandering through virgin forest, pristine glaciers and wildlife like a family of brown bears.

Canada is welcoming, safe and has open spaces for miles, but it also has packed local cafes, great nightlife and some of the freshest produce in the entire world. Get to know the Canadian basics on this first module, but even if you have been before you will still have plenty to learn.

2. Vibrant cities

The cities in Canada tend to get overshadowed by the mountains but Canadian metropolises are packed with urban adventures. The Toronto International Film Festival is in the top-tier of the world’s film industry events, the Montreal Jazz Festival draws music lovers from all over the globe and the city’s restaurants range from global powerhouses to local faves. In Quebec they invented poutine (chips slathered in gravy) one of the best comfort foods since pizza and the seafood is as fresh as you can imagine from the untouched Canadian coastline.

3. Wide open spaces

Australians tend to think we know about the wide open road, but this is the epic great outdoor Canadian style: surfing in Nova Scotia, skiing and ziplining in Whistler, whale-watching in white-capped seas and spotting grizzly bears and moose. A trip to Canada makes the great outdoors even greater.

4. History and culture

From First Nations culture to early settlers there is a wealth of history on display in Canada. At ‘Ksan Historial Village in Hazelton, British Columbia there is a recreated Gitsxan village with totem poles and smoke houses celebrating culture that has been in Canada for thousands of years. Go to Kings Landing Historical Settlement and you’ll discover where loyalists escaped the cannons and muskets of the American Revolution and started a new life. Or discover Canada’s wild west at the Barkerville National Historic Site a living museum of salons and gold-rush architecture.
