Making waves in multiple categories, Viking scooped the number-one Ocean Line and River Line accolades at the 2022 World’s Best Awards as voted by Travel + Leisure readers, making it the first cruise line ever to top both categories in the same year.

Straight to the trophy room

Multiple-award-winning cruise operator Viking was named as the number-one Ocean Line for ships with 300 to 799 cabins and the number-one River Line in the just-announced 2022 World’s Best Awards.

Travel + Leisure readers are invited to cast their vote in the prestigious annual awards, taking into consideration the cabins and facilities, food and service, itineraries and destinations, excursions and activities as well as the overall value offered by global travel companies.

Viking is also rated as the top cruise line for both rivers and oceans by Condé Nast Traveler with no other cruise line simultaneously earning this extraordinary distinction in its categories from both publications ever before.

Teamwork makes the dream work

Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen said it was a very special honour to be the first cruise line to receive both awards in the same year.

“Thank you to the readers of Travel + Leisure for voting us first in these prestigious awards. We are proud to be named the world’s number one for both oceans and rivers,” he said.

“This achievement is the result of the hard work our Viking team members have put in over the last 25 years and in my view, it is now time to work even harder.

“They say that when you reach the top, there is only one way to go – at Viking, we say that way is onwards.”

More milestones to come

The awards announcement follows as Viking forges onwards, leaving an outstanding year of significant achievements in its wake with more on the horizon.

The cruise line celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and launched the debut of Viking Expeditions as well as new ships, including the first of two purpose-built expedition vessels, the Viking Octantis, which is currently sailing its inaugural season in the Great Lakes.

The company also introduced eight new Viking Longships and a new ocean ship, the Viking Mars.

By the end of the year, Viking will also welcome the expedition ship, Viking Polaris, and another ocean ship, the Viking Neptune, as well as new purpose-built vessels for the Nile, Mekong, and Mississippi rivers.

Viking will be featured in Travel + Leisure magazine’s World’s Best issue, on newsstands in July, and the full results of the 27th annual awards can be found at travelandleisure.com/worlds-best
