WHAT WOULD YOU if you were upgraded to First Class & your mate wasn't?

"You've been upgraded to First Class" - they're the six words every traveller not-so-secretly wishes they'd hear before taking their seat in a physically restrictive Economy seat.

“You’ve been upgraded to First Class” – they’re the six words every traveller not-so-secretly wishes they’d hear before taking their seat in a physically restrictive Economy seat.

Unfortunately, it rarely ever happens. And when it does, it’s for a flight so short that does not provide them with enough time to take full advantage of that highly desired and often unaffordable First Class inflight service.

Typical, right?!

Then a day born out of dreams arrives to deliver a few fortunate flyers with the airline industry’s golden ticket. A free upgrade to First Class.

Practically speechless, they marvel at the opportunities that await them in a fully-reclinable seat only to eventually notice that their travel partner was not as lucky.

Should they abandon their plus one and take up the rare opportunity? OR should they give up the golden ticket and stick with their companion?

It’s the biggest of all first world problems – what would you do if you were given an upgrade but your travel buddy wasn’t?

We put the question to our Facebook followers and were surprised to find that when it comes to airline upgrades, it’s mostly each man for themselves.

Some would feign consideration for their travel buddy…

But of course, not everyone was ready to ditch their mate for a fully-reclined seat, tastier food, fancier cutlery and an incredible amount of extra space.

Like this pair who said they’d take their travel companion in consideration…

While some saints even offered to go halvsies…

And then were those rare few who followed a strict code of ‘Friends over First’.
