In Fiji you can take breakfast on your own private island, have a moonlit dinner on the beach with the lapping waves as your dinner music, or dine high-end on lobster cooked by an acclaimed chef.

When we think of the South Pacific paradise it is too easy to get caught up in the image of cocktails by the pool. But the food, OH THE FOOD! Whether you are eating fresh seafood just metres from where it was caught, feasting on island-grown produce kissed by the tropical sun or smelling fresh herbs picked from a nearby garden – Fiji is a foodie destination like no other.

Here is every meal sorted on your next trip to Fiji:

Dine on a private island

karryon-vomo

Vomo Island Fiji is a spectacular private island resort, with just 28 resort villas and 4 luxury holiday residences, and it has brought world-class dining to the islands via a Michelin-starred chef Mark Leslie who has worked for a host of A-list celebrities before landing in the Mamanucas. Leslie takes inspiration from the organic herbs, vegetables and fruits that grow on the island along with local produce like freshly caught fish, treats it simply and then gives it a fresh take like some garlic kale or steaming it in a banana leaf. For those renting out the private residences you can also get a gourmet meal or dinner party in your residence – I say ‘yes please’ to culinary lux!

Feast and then chill at a beach club

karryon-malamala-coconuts

A foodies paradise, the Malamala Beach Club is an island you can go to for the day to swim in epically beautiful turquoise waters, do all sorts of fun water sports, take selfies in the picturesque infinity pool and then feast on delicious Fijian-infused food curated by the awesome Aussie chef Lance Seeto and his team – oh and it gets better… you can enjoy not one but SEVEN Malamala Signature cocktails, a must do.

Taste the freshest seafood

On another private island – there are LOADS OF THEM in this Fijian paradise after all! – sits the Wicked Walu, one of the very best seafood restaurants in the country. As part of the Warwick Resort, this restaurant sits on its own little islet with open-air dining in a traditional bure-inspired dining room. Settle in for a sunset dinner of grilled seafood, fresh ceviche, or a perfectly grilled steak (if you really must) – oh and did I mention it’s adults only? Enjoy your delicious dinner in peace ;-D

Learn to cook Fiji style

karryon-flavours-of-fiji

At Flavours of Fiji Cooking School you can learn to master island classics like a Fijian feast along with some of the nation’s mouth-watering Indian delights. Driven by a passion of local cuisine, Flavours of Fiji was created so visitors could enjoy and immerse themselves in  Fiji’s local culture – and their local home-style cooks showcase their delicious local dishes boasting both Fijian and Indo-Fijian flavours. This awesome experience starts at the local markets where you get to really understand the local produce and concludes with eating the dishes you’ve created – I was so impressed at what I learnt in such a short space of time! The menu changes regularly and is influenced by the seasons, so you never know what treats you are in for – but I can guarantee that you‘ll take home with you a very full belly plus the skills to cook some amazing new and delicious dishes.

Dine in luxury resort style

karryon-Six-senses

Tovolea Restaurant, Bar and Lounge, Six Senses Fiji

Fiji really does high-end resort experiences so well and they all come with incredible dining options. At the Six Senses Fiji guests are offered a contemporary take on traditional Fijian and international dishes using ultra fresh, locally produced and sourced ingredients – with many from the resort’s herb garden and farm. While at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa you can visit the Golden Cowrie Restaurant that is said to serve the best Italian in Fiji! If you’re after an adults-only resort check out the gorgeous Matamanoa, here you’ll find a fabulous restaurant with dreamy views, complete with some of the best Fijian entertainment in the islands. Insiders tip – if you catch some fish on one of their Deep Blue fishing trips and the Chef will prepare it for your dinner however your heart desires – can’t get more fresh then that!

Heavenly cuisine

karryon-yasawa

There are 15 words in the Fijian language meaning heaven and ‘Yasawa’ is the first… and here at Yasawa Island Resort & Spa I can promise that you will be in culinary heaven as the dining experiences are extraordinary and the executive chef creatively designs delish menus daily. From secluded beach picnics at locations with fab names like Champagne Beach, Lovers’ Beach and Paradise Beach where you are undoubtedly in for an idyllic day (and let’s be honest there are very few places left in the world where you can enjoy an entire beach to yourself, aaahh-mazing) to poolside dinners feasting on the freshest of local and regional ingredients – dreaming of their delicious fresh lobster, so yum!
