The Northern Territory has rolled out an inspiring new tourism advertising campaign to entice Aussie travellers back to the Top End.

The Northern Territory has rolled out an inspiring new tourism advertising campaign to entice Aussie travellers back to the Top End.

Get ready for an overwhelming desire for travel and adventure because the NT has launched a national tourism campaign, calling for Aussie travellers to escape the anxiety of everyday life and explore the wonders of the Territory.

The campaign, titled ‘Seek Different’ highlights the uniqueness of the destination and encourages travellers to step outside of their comfort zones in the pursuit of authentic experiences.

The Northern Territory isn’t trying to be different. It just is.

A struggling sector

In a move to bolster the ailing tourism industry, which is heavily reliant on overseas travellers, the national campaign is a lifeline for the NT; calling for Aussies to Holiday Here This Year.

NT visitor numbers from other states plummeted by 62 per cent in 2020 amid COVID-19 lockdowns, travel restrictions and border closures. That equates to about a $1.3 billion fall in revenue from domestic travellers, according to Tourism NT.

“Twelve months ago we started to feel the impacts of the coronavirus in Australia,” Tourism and Hospitality Minister Natasha Fyles told reporters on Monday.

“But now with all the state borders open, travel optimism is back so the NT is going to capitalise on this … as people head into winter down south.”

“With international travel off the cards for the foreseeable future, we know how important visitors from interstate will be,” Ms Fyles said.

Ms Fyles said the NT’s tourism sector had “suffered immensely throughout the pandemic” and it was unlikely that increased domestic tourism would make up for the continued loss of international visitors.

Tourism NT general manager Tony Quarmby said the campaign would be a much-needed shot in the arm for many tourism operators ahead of JobKeeper ending.

About 18 per cent of the NT workforce relies on tourism.

Seek Different

‘Seek Different’ stirs the eleutheromaniac within you, while showcasing the Territory’s natural attractions and adventure experiences.

“Visit the iconic Uluru for a spectacular sunset, take a dip in the epic waterholes or dine under a billion stars, whatever your choice is, we guarantee it will be a memorable one.”

“We all seek to be different in our own way, and nowhere lets you be who you are and find what you seek like the Northern Territory.”
