AirAsia will suspend two Australian Bali routes next month, cutting services from both Melbourne and Adelaide to Denpasar (Bali) “due to current operating conditions”.
Operated by Indonesia AirAsia, the final flights between Melbourne (MEL) and Denpasar (DPS), and Adelaide (ADL) and Denpasar will take place on 18 June 2026.
Indonesia AirAsia General Manager Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman said the decision was difficult but necessary as the routes were no longer commercially viable in the current environment.
“This decision has been made in response to the sustained increase in global jet fuel prices caused by the ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East,” he said.

“This operating environment has led to the need to refocus our network on routes that remain operationally viable at this time.
“AirAsia understands the suspension impacts long-made travel plans and we apologise for the inconvenience this decision has caused, and we want to thank our guests for their support and understanding.”
AirAsia said affected customers are being contacted directly and offered options including travel date changes or alternative connections through Kuala Lumpur where possible.
The carrier did not outline whether the suspensions would be temporary or permanent.

In late April, AirAsia also exited Darwin, suspending both Bali and Kuala Lumpur services after less than a year in the market. The airline says it pulled the Northern Territory services after bookings failed to reach commercially viable levels.
KARRYON UNPACKS: Bali capacity has generally surged in recent years, so AirAsia’s retreat highlights how competitive – and volatile – the Indonesia market remains, even on routes Australians often assume are guaranteed winners.
