New Caledonia has lifted its curfew, ending restrictions imposed since May due to unrest and marking a return to normalcy for the island nation.
The country’s authorities say the milestone marks a stabilisation of the region, making it more welcoming for locals and visitors alike.
Coinciding with this development, national carrier Aircalin is set to expand its flight services between Australia and Nouméa.

Currently operating two weekly flights from Sydney and Brisbane, the airline will increase flights to three per week during peak school holiday periods in April, June, July, August, September and October 2025 as it responds to growing demand.
The expanded services aim to improve accessibility to Nouméa for Aussie travellers, supported by extra codeshare partner flights.
“We are delighted to welcome Australians back to New Caledonia, a destination rich in cultural and recreational offerings,” Aircalin General Manager for Australia and New Zealand Chris Thistlethwaite said.

“The lifting of the curfew signifies a return to normalcy, and our increased flight schedules during school holidays in 2025 will provide greater flexibility and convenience for travellers.”
Aircalin’s fleet includes modern Airbus A320Neo and A330Neo aircraft, offering passengers enhanced comfort with LED HD touchscreen entertainment systems and over 90 programs.
A turning point
New Caledonia Tourism Account Director in Australia Rebecca Marchal said the developments on the ground and in the air are “significant milestones in New Caledonia’s journey towards normalcy”.
“This demonstrates our resilience and underscores the strong partnership between Aircalin and New Caledonia Tourism,” she stated.

“Australian travellers can look forward to unique and culturally rich experiences, all within a short flight from home. The destination is open and ready to welcome visitors with open arms.”
New Caledonia will be hoping it can return to the winning ways of 2023 when a record 30,000 Aussies visited Australia’s closest South Pacific neighbour. And these moves will help it get there.
