Aussies flock to New Caledonia in record levels in 2023 (& that’s not even the total count)

New Caledonia welcomed a record number of Aussies in 2023 with more than 30,000 travellers visiting our closest South Pacific neighbour. And that’s not even the full story as it excludes Aircalin’s recently relaunched direct Melbourne– Nouméa flights.

New Caledonia welcomed a record number of Aussies in 2023 with more than 30,000 travellers visiting our closest South Pacific neighbour. And that’s not even the full story as it excludes Aircalin’s recently relaunched direct Melbourne– Nouméa flights.

The South Pacific island paradise saw an impressive 18.57 per cent jump in Australian arrivals last year compared to 2019, smashing pre-pandemic levels.

Even more noteworthy, these New Caledonia Tourism figures only represent arrivals from flights out of Sydney and Brisbane.

With the Aircalin direct Melbourne-Nouméa route relaunched in December 2023, this figure is anticipated to grow substantially in 2024.

The island nation is easily accessible from Australia with nonstop flying times of two hours from Brisbane, three hours from Sydney and 3.5 hours from Melbourne.

New Caledonia Tourism Australia Account Director Rebecca Marchal is delighted with the heightened enthusiasm, making the South Pac nation one of the most Googled destinations in 2023 within the Australian market.

“Seeing the surge in Australian arrivals reaffirms our belief that New Caledonia holds a special allure for travellers seeking a tropical escape,” she said.

“With just a short flight from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, it offers something for every traveller, whether it’s a quick weekend getaway, a stress-free family vacation or a longer adventure.”
