AirAsia X continues to spread its wings across Australia, with plans to increase its Kuala Lumpur-Gold Coast services up from daily to 11 weekly.

The announcement comes less than two months after the budget carrier increased frequency to Melbourne, Sydney AND Perth.

Additional services to the Gold Coast will start from 1 July 2016, and according to the airline’s Chief Executive, they reflect the increasing success “of the route and demand”.

“These four additional weekly services strengthens our long standing relationship with Gold Coast Airport and also our successful strategy in developing under-served markets.”

Benyamin Ismail, AirAsia X Chief Executive

The four additional flights will operate under flight numbers D7200 from Kuala Lumpur and D7021 from the Gold Coast. They’ll depart from Malaysia at 8.25pm to arrive in Queensland at 6.25am and then return at 9.30pm to touch down in Malaysia at 4.20pm.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer, Marion Charlton, said the increase to 11 flights per week is “great news” for the state’s tourism industry because it provides space for an addition 78,000 travellers to visit per year.

“AirAsia X has played a key role in delivering affordable air travel to and from South East Queensland since they commenced services to Gold Coast Airport in 2007.”

Last week, Queensland’s tourism industry also celebrated the arrival of Air Canada, with the first direct connection between the state and Vancouver.
