Around 16 flights between Australia and Bali have been cancelled today as ash from Mount Raung continues to disrupt operations to and from Denpasar Airport.
Virgin Australia advised its guests that it was forced to cancel 12 services to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
The airline urged travellers to avoid heading to the airport or calling the Guest Contact Centre in regards to flight options because ‘there are longer than usual wait times’.
Virgin will update guests on their flights and rescheduling options via SMS and on the company’s website.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely.”

“The safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority and we will keep customers updated as new information becomes available.”
Meanwhile budget airline, Jetstar, which cancelled 13 flights yesterday, has suspended another five today.
The Qantas’ off-shoot said in an online update that it is working closely with the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) and its operations team, who have determined it is ‘not safe to resume flying’.
Any further cancellations for today will be announced throughout the day.
Jetstar also advises travellers to avoid heading to the airport and to monitor flight status on the airline’s website or via the Jetstar app.
“Our team will continue to monitor the ash cloud with the VAAC around the clock, and we will resume flying as soon as it is safe to do so.”
