In big news for Australia-Hong Kong travel, Cathay Pacific has announced it will increase the number of Brisbane and Perth flights by 75 per cent later this year.
The move marks the return of full pre-pandemic capacity for the airline between Hong Kong and Queensland and Western Australia.
Commencing 28 October, Cathay Pacific will increase Brisbane flights from six to 10 per week and Perth flights from six to 11 each week.
Seats for October to March 2025 are on sale now. Sydney and Melbourne schedules are unchanged from four flights and three daily flights respectively.
The Cathy Group (including HK Express) has set a target date of Q1 2025 to be back to full pre-Covid capacity across its network, with the airline expecting to reach 80 per cent levels within the second quarter of this year. And the returned Aussie flights fill a big piece of that puzzle.
“I am incredibly proud to see flights increasing for both Brisbane and Perth,” Cathay Pacific Regional General Manager, Southwest Pacific Frosti Lau said.
“This is testament to our team who have been continuing to provide world-class service as we rebuild our flights and network.
“These new flights will give our Australian customers more choice when travelling to Hong Kong and beyond.
The announcement is also a positive development for Cathay’s crucial cargo business as it grows freight capacity.
“The updated schedule will see new opportunities available for businesses in Brisbane and Perth across the likes of fresh produce, pharma, speciality items and more,” Lay added.
Cathay Pacific returned to full capacity between Sydney and Hong Kong in November 2023.
Last year, the carrier announced it would go by the single moniker ‘Cathay’ for its global master brand, retaining ‘Cathay Pacific’ for its airline.
