More than 400 flights have been cancelled across the country, with Frankfurt Airport the hardest hit.

Thousands of tourists will have their plans thrown into disarray with airport staff walking out to take a stand against poor wages and working conditions.

Germany’s largest airline, Lufthansa warn on their website that there will be “considerable disruption” at Frankfurt, Hanover, Bremen, Leipzig/Halle, Dresden and Hamburg airports today as a result of “a strike by security personnel”.

“Please inform yourself about the status of your flight before departure,” they said in a message to passengers

Frankfurt Airport warns on their homepage that the security checkpoints outside the transit area will remain closed during the strike, from the early morning hours until 8 pm.

“Thus, originating passengers departing from Frankfurt will not be able to pass through the legally required security checks and get to their flights. We therefore strongly advise all originating passengers from Frankfurt to avoid coming to the airport.”

They advise that travellers contact their airline or travel operator as soon as possible for information on their new flights.

“We expect that transfer processes for connecting passengers in the transit area will still largely be possible,” they said.

“Nevertheless, also transfer passengers should expect disruptions and delays due to the strike. We kindly ask all affected passengers for their understanding.”
