The first day of school is emotionally overwhelming for most children as they’re plopped onto unfamiliar grounds where they’re forced to let go of their parents’ hands, meet new people and learn.

One quick flip through your old photo albums and you’ll see the mixed look of anxiousness and excitement seeping through your younger version’s eyes.

Now, can you imagine how amplified the nerves would be for a young Syrian refugee starting school for the first time since escaping a war zone?

I can’t even begin to.

Hoping to ease the nerves of these school starters, the Etihad Aviation Group hand delivered over 2,500 much-needed school supplies to refugees living in a Jordanian camp in a fun-filled way.

Thousands of activity packs, stationary sets, school bags, blankets and clothes were given to children between 5 and 12 years old this month along with a special celebration on the camp including a magic show and football game.

The airline Group also handed out gifts for 75 Syrian refugee children born in September.

According to Etihad Airways Sports and Social Committee Chairman, Khaled Al Mehairbi, the airline is committed to giving back to those in need and is extremely proud to have played a part in “helping these students pursue their studies”.
