Farewell Dragonair, hello Cathay Dragon

Cathay Pacific has announced a complete rebrand and makeover of its wholly-owned subsidiary Dragonair, to better align the airline with its sister company.

Cathay Pacific has announced a complete rebrand and makeover of its wholly-owned subsidiary Dragonair, to better align the airline with its sister company.

The two will continue to operate as separate airlines, however, Dragonair will rebrand to Cathay Dragon to capitalise on Cathay Pacific’s internationally recognised brand.

In addition to the new name, Cathay Dragon will adopt a new logo and new livery that reflects the carrier’s new title and growing network.

New livery will be closely aligned with that of Cathay Pacific’s and will include the brushwing on the tail and an updated Chinese dragon emblem featuring a slight colour gradient to the dragon’s back and simplifying some of the details.

Cathay Dragon’s logo will retain Dragonair’s distinctive red, but encompass a slightly deeper and richer tone.

Updates to the carrier’s image will appear for the first time on Cathay Dragon’s new Airbus A330-300 aircraft debuting in April this year. It will then roll out to the rest of the fleet.

Accompanying the image and name change, Cathay Dragon will offer guests a premium in-flight experience featuring traditional Chinese and Hong Kong cuisine.

Cathay Dragon’s Chief Executive Officer Algernon Yau said despite image changes, guests will continue to experience the same high level of products and services.

“We will also continue to build on our experience and understanding of what our passengers like and treasure, such as speciality Chinese and Asian dishes as well as popular local Hong Kong snacks.”

The Cathay Pacific Group will launch a major international advertising and marketing campaign later this year to promote recognition of Cathay Dragon and the benefits this rebranding will bring to passengers.
