From City of Sails to City of Angels: AA launches AKL–LAX direct flights

American Airlines will debut a new daily seasonal service between Auckland (AKL) and Los Angeles (LAX) from 21 December 2023 with the inaugural flight landing in New Zealand on 23 December.

American Airlines will debut a new daily seasonal service between Auckland (AKL) and Los Angeles (LAX) from 21 December 2023 with the inaugural flight landing in New Zealand on 23 December.

The AKL–LAX route will operate until 3 March 2024 on an American Airlines (AA) Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

The new route follows the return of AA’s direct Auckland–Dallas/Fort Worth flights in late 2022 and serves to strengthen its Asia-Pacific footprint.

The new nonstop route from New Zealand to Hollywood is the airline’s second operation to Auckland with LAX providing an important gateway to continental US, Hawai’i and Mexico.

AA Vice President of Operations & Commercial, EMEA & APAC Kyle Mabry said: “The response we had from the New Zealand public when we returned last year was overwhelmingly positive, so we’re excited to be launching our new seasonal LAX route later this year.”

“Working closely again with Auckland Airport, we aim to provide customers with a sustainable, seamless travel experience that opens them up to new destinations, adventures and memories.”

American Airlines will depart Auckland daily at 3:50pm and LAX at 11:50pm local time.

AA resumed its daily SYD–LAX flights after a five-month stop in October 2022.
