Team Kokua, Hawaiian Airlines’ own all-employee team of outrigger canoe paddlers, landed in Sydney recently ahead of this weekend’s Sydney Harbour Challenge.
Currently in practice mode in Manly, Team Kokua will join over 120 teams of six paddlers each in one of Sydney’s premier water sport events.
The Sydney Harbour Challenge, presented by Hawaiian Airlines, is the biggest six-person canoe race in the Southern Hemisphere. It is held in partnership with the Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association.
Tomorrows race event will start at Manly Wharf at 2pm and head across Sydney Heads into Sydney Harbour, passing Taronga Zoo, the Sydney Opera House, under the Sydney Harbour Bridge along the way, and rounding a turn marker at Luna Park before heading back to Manly Wharf.

During the all-day event, Hawaiian Airlines will also be hosting 130 travel industry guests who will follow the men’s endurance paddle 25-kilometres (15.5 mile) through the waters of the harbour tomorrow.
Hawaii’s national carrier is on quite the roll of late, recently upgrading its A330s to offer a new Business Class service from Australia.
The upgrade was made to compete with increased competition on flights between Australia and the US.
