Taiwan-bound Australians will soon have more flights to choose from, with China Airlines set to increase capacity between Brisbane and Taipei.
From 1 January 2023, the Taipei-based career will boost capacity between the two cities from three flights per week to five flights.
The airline will also increase flights between Brisbane and Auckland by the same margin.
China Airlines will operate its Airbus 306-seater, A350-900 aircraft on the route, with Brisbane-Taipei and Brisbane-Auckland flights departing on Tuesday, and Thursday to Sunday.
The expansion coincides with the carrier’s 20th anniversary next year of flying to Brisbane.

“Queensland is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Taiwan and has the largest Taiwanese community in Australia,” China Airlines’ Brisbane general manager, Jonathan Shih said.
“With the Taiwan government opening up its border, China Airlines is ramping up to five flights weekly from January 2023.
“This will provide Queenslanders with an easy connection to nearly 150 cities around the world, including Asia, Europe and North America.”
Created to help boost Queensland tourism, the $200 million joint public and private Attracting Aviation Investment Fund gave impetus to China Airlines’ expansion into the state.
“China Airlines is a high-quality carrier with a significant worldwide network,” Brisbane Airport (BNE) executive general manager of aviation, Ryan Both said.
“They bring to our tourism destinations visitors from high-spending markets like Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and their home of Taiwan – all markets thirsty for quality air capacity to Queensland.”
Brisbane Airport boost
BNE anticipates around 3 million passenger movements over the summer holiday period.
“When Brisbane Airport is busy, Queensland’s tourism industry is busy too,” Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) chief executive Gert-Jan de Graaff said.
“And that’s great news for jobs right across the Sunshine State.”
BAC estimates around 50 million passengers will pass through BNE each year by 2040.
