JETSTAR BACKS AGENTS: "I laugh when people say Agent bookings are declining"

If the studies and people’s changing attitudes don’t convince you, then how about hard proof from a budget carrier like Jetstar that shows there’s more and more bookings coming through Travel Agents.

Jetstar’s Jaclyn Snell told top sellers at Global Stars in Hamilton Island this weekend that reports of trade business declining couldn’t be more wrong, particularly when it comes to airline sales.

The Manager of Sales for Australia said over the last seven years the airline’s bookings made through traditional consultants have climbed some 20 percent, proving Aussies still heavily rely on them when it comes to booking travel.

“I always laugh when I read things about Travel Agent business declining because we’re seeing a huge increase in travel business.”

Jaclyn Snell, Jetstar Australia Manager Sales

This increase in Jetstar bookings through Travel Agents can be attributed to the changing attitudes of Aussies towards consultants, the carrier’s strong relationships with retail groups as well as its wholesale proposition, which was introduced in the last seven years and now contributes 20 percent of all trade revenue.

Jaclyn expects Agent bookings to grow even further when the ancillary process through wholesale is reduced from a two-step to a one-step from September this year, as a result of a new wholesale bundles solution which packages flights with baggage, meals and inflight entertainment.

Another factor, she believes is having a positive impact on industry sales, could also be the break on price given to Travel Agents over online. She explained Travel Agents have a price advantage for Jetstar flights over online for almost 80 percent of the year.
